President Theodore Roosevelt created the first "Great White Fleet" celebration in a young San Francisco Bay Area back in 1908. Beginning in 1981 became an annual tradition. Fleet Week is usually held in the first week of October, when the bay's weather is at its best. The colorful crowds in Fisherman's Wharf ad to the show while other ports are a little easier to negotiate.
